Which countries belong to the Schengen Area?

The Schengen Area are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

Countries that are outside Schengen Area but still have open borders with the area: San Marino, Monaco and Vatican City.

The Schengen Area does not cover with the European Union range. EU countries which doesn't belong to the Schengen Area are: Cyprus, Bułgaria, Ireland, Romania, United Kingdom and Croatia. You still need to have a valid ID or passport when you cross the border of these countries.
